Ljósavatn is popular lake is in Thingeyrjarsýsla, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Akureyri.  It is quite large and has good stocks of both char and trout. Although the fish caught on a rod in this lake is usually quite small, it is well attended and very suitable for families. The char is usually 0.5 to 1.5 lbs. but the trout can be bigger, or up to 5 lbs. The lake can be fished 24 hours daily and the best time is from May – mid July.
